Copywriting Services
Since forming StrayGoat Copywriting in 2004, I have been producing engaging, clear, concise and persuasive copy for a variety of businesses, including business directories, small businesses, web design companies, and even a web design studio in Ukraine. My experience has mainly been in writing web copy and sales letters, but my full range of copywriting services includes:
- SEO copy for websites (Search Engine Optimisation copy...keyword rich for the benefit of Search Engines)
- 'Organic'copy for websites
- Copy for leaflets and brochures
- Copy for advertisements
- Copy for pitches ('elevator' pitches)
- Direct marketing - sales letters, direct e-mail
- Translation fixing
- Newsletters
- Blogs
- Articles
- Press Releases
So whether you need keyword-rich copy for your website, promotional copy for your next brochure, a winning sales letter or just a bit of help fixing translated text, I have the skills you need. You can see some examples of my work in the Portfolio section. However, please note that my portfolio is quite restricted as many of my customers have time-sensitive information or simply don't want me to feature the copy I produced for fear of their competitors plagiarising it (most notably with sales letters). But you will certainly be able to get a feel for my style of writing, which will help you to decide whether I am a good match for your business. Which leads me to another point - style.
The Right Copywriter for You? A Question of Style.
When writing promotional copy, I use an informal, chatty style and go for a subtle approach to selling. And it is important that you know that from the start. Because when you hire an SEO copywriter, web copywriter, or any other form of writer, you need to make sure that the way they write is going to reflect your business in a positive light.
My copywriting is all about creating a positive emotional response. No matter what you are trying to sell, I will promote it in a way that captures the reader's attention, highlights the benefits, and makes the reader feel inspired to act - either to make a purchase or to contact you for more information. I use more short sentences than long ones and write in Plain English wherever possible. I make every effort to avoid jargon and the dreaded 'business speak' unless there's no way around it. In my experience, direct communication is the best communication - if you use too many complex sentences or uncommon words, you can really alienate potential customers. And this is especially true on the Internet where people are more inclined to scan pages rather than read them in great depth.
If you do a little research on copywriting, you'll certainly come across numerous books and websites, primarily American, that promote a 'hard sell' style of copywriting. By this, I mean the type of writing you see in old fashioned direct mail letters...where it begins with a question, follows up with several paragraphs that make very heavy-handed use of repetition and is peppered with claims that sound too good to be true. Now, some so called experts would have you believe that this type of writing is the right way to go. I strongly disagree.
In my opinion, 'hard sell' copywriting is not the best approach. Why? Because it is the type of writing that is associated with various 'get rich quick' schemes and scams. Most customers, certainly those in the UK, are savvy to this type of exploitation and will dismiss the copy before they have even read the first paragraph. Thanks to consumer shows and articles, we are all too aware of the old adage 'if it appears too good to be true, it probably is'.
So if you want accessible copy that promotes your business and helps you to develop a lasting relationship with your customers, I could be the right man for your job. And remember, I'm usually available to hire as an SEO copywriter, web copywriter, sales letter copywriter, or translation fixing writer at short notice. If you have a project that needs urgent attention, just email me at craigwright@straygoat.com and I will get back to you quickly with a competitive quote.
And remember, I also work as a technical author and so can provide professional technical copy too.
