Origin of StrayGoat Copywriting

Freelance Copywriter in Coventry, UKIn 2003, I decided I needed a change. I had worked as a technical author for several years and had become bogged down with the routine of my work. Rather than sit around and wait for an opportunity to arrive, I decided to take affirmative action and quickly enrolled on the Institute of Copywriters’ training course.

Having worked as a technical author, I found the copywriting course quite easy. The two disciplines are not all that different, despite what some people may tell you – with copywriting, I need to grab the attention and explain how a product or service is going to help; with technical writing, I have to explain how to use a product or service and reassure readers that they have made the right choice.

Later that year, I passed the Institute of Copywriters’ course with flying colours and became a full member. Then I set about forming my own freelance business.

And so StrayGoat Copywriting was born (at my Coventry home without any trained medical assistance).

But why is it called StrayGoat? Well, that’s a personal thing between me and my wife, so I’m not telling. My lips are sealed.

Pricing was competitive, but the most important factor was that his response was friendly and approachable. The copy that Craig produced was just what we wanted.
